Give us some background info as to who you are.
We are a group founded in March of 2011 that has effectively combined the sounds of Caribbean music, with American styles such as Hip-Hop, Pop, and Techno. The group consists of Major Afektz, SRG, and Baw. Major Afektz, with a background in producing, song-writing, and engineering reached out to SRG, an inspiring artist of Jamaican origins, and BAW, a good-spirited artist with Haitian origins to form the group we call ACA Wun Nation.
What is the significance of your name?
The name ACA Wun Nation derived from Major Afektz seeking to establish a name that would accurately depict the groups purpose, and cause. ACA, standing for American Caribbean Alliance, demonstrates the push for unity between the two nations. “Wun Nation,” coming from the American slogan “One Nation Under God,” was used but spelt differently as “Wun” to further display the unified mindset of the group.
Who is your target market?
Our target market includes listeners from multiple genres of music, who are willing to embrace the idea of a more unified sound of music. We seek to pull in fans from all genres including, but not limited to, Reggae, Hip-Hop, Soca, Kompa, Pop, Techno, R&B, and DubStep.
What is your USP? (Unique Selling Proposition) and what sets you apart from other Hip Hop artists?
What sets us apart is our drive to relay a positive message to the youth, and our focus on the daily struggles of our society, while simultaneously catering to the party scene providing dance music. We’re not limited to only one topic or content area in our music. We look beyond the social norms, and choose rather to expand the minds of our listeners in every way.
What single or project are you currently pushing?
We are currently pushing the first single from our upcoming LP “Unity Through Sound,” titled “I’m American.” We’ve just released the video as well, which has generated a large amount of positive feedback thus far. The single I’m American, symbolizes the push for equality in the United States. Relaying the messaging that even though we’re not natives of this country, we still belong and shouldn’t be treated any differently.
What is the philosophy by which you live by?
Our philosophies are “Out of many, one people,” and “Unity makes strength,” which are the national slogans from our native countries Jamaica and Haiti. We represent unity, and hope to have all people of Caribbean origin, come together under one cause and purpose.
Which artists have inspired you?
Bob Marley, Wyclef, Mavado, Carimi, Vybz Kartel, Drake, Rick Ross, Jay-Z, and various other techno, and pop artist.
Who does your production?
All production is done by group member Major Afektz, a truly versatile producer from New York, who embodies the diverse needs of the group.
What is your opinion of the current state of the music industry?
Our opinion of the music industry is that, everything is starting to sound the same. A lot of artists tend to stay in the box of what’s proven to be accepted in our culture. Every song usually has the same content and purpose. We need to start making more songs that have meaning and have the ability to inspire our nation’s youth.
If you can change one thing about the music industry what would it be and why?
If we can change one thing, it would be to increase the willingness for American artists from different genres to collaborate on new tracks in a more creative way, with artists all around the world, redefining music in its entirety.
What is your favorite movie and favorite book?
One of our favorite movies is Cool Runnings, directed by Jon Turteltaub, and one of our favorite books is Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger.
What are some major misconceptions that you think people have of you?
The biggest misconception people may have of us is that we only make one genre of music for a certain audience, if they haven’t heard the rest of our songs. Another misconception people have is to think we are only aiming for a commercial sound, when we have multiple songs in every category.
What is your favorite part of your live show? How has it evolved?
Our favorite part of any live show, is getting our audience to be energetic along with us, causing them to start dancing and cheering, inevitably wanting more.
What is your album going to be like?
Our album will consist of the maximum amount of songs possible, from various genres such as Reggae, Techno, Pop, Kompa, Hip-Hop, and creative blends. Our LP will have our listeners tuned in from the very beginning right through the last track, dancing, inspired, crying, and laughing along the way.
