Playyboi Pudd lights up Northeast hip-hop scene with new music, videos

CAMDEN, NJ – Growing up, Playyboi Pudd had an uncle who had the unusual nickname Pudd (pronounced Puh-d, as in “pudding”). It was such an unusual name that it was something that always stuck in the back of his head, even long after his uncle had passed. And so at age 14, when other boys his age were taking on nicknames, he adopted the name – not only as an homage to his uncle, but also because he wanted a name that would forever stand out.

As he grew older he began to discover that he had a way with the ladies. He had a natural charm and a smooth voice that girls seemed to be attracted to – so much so that his friend started referring to him as a Playboy.

Even as he became an adult, those two attributes of his life never went away. And so when it came time to choose a name to represent his new music career, it seemed perfectly natural to choose the name Playyboi Pudd. And today he’s one of the hottest new hip-hop artists in the Northeast. His 12-song mixtape “Fright Night” is slated to drop toward the end of this year, though he has two original singles from the project that are available for fans the check out.

The first is a song called “I’m Blessed.” It’s a song that he said reflects the purpose that so much of his music has: to encourage and inspire others.

“Almost all of my songs give some kind of a message of encouragement,” Pudd said. “This song is basically saying that no matter how much I struggle, I know that I am blessed. And I just want to take that message to others so that they can be encouraged and inspired. I want them to be able to see someone who came from the ghetto and was poverty stricken and still made it. I want to show them that they can do it, too, if they put their mind to it. So a lot of my songs are about not worrying about what’s going on in the struggle and just keeping your head up and keep striving.”

Pudd’s mixtape also includes a single called “Trust me,” which will drop later this month along with a music video that he’ll put on his YouTube channel. The song and video portray a guy who is taken advantage of by a variety of girls who see that he is willing to spend money on them because of his charming nature. But eventually he starts to get the hint and realize what’s happening. It’s a song that he said displays his unique style and should help increase his ever-growing fan base.

“I just don’t sound like nobody in this day and age,” he said. “You can’t compare me to anybody. I’m not the Southern sound you’re hearing a lot today. I’m not that trap sound. I’m a completely different sound. A lot of my music is mainstream though – it’s not just underground, hard-core music. It’s just that my own sound is different, and hopefully people will be attracted to it and realize the lyrics are deep.”
