LOS ANGELES, CA – To say that someone was born with a passion for music is an understatement for Travis Tillery. From growing up in Miami, Florida, the artist thrived on everything that music represented to him. His personal icon, Michael Jackson, somewhat guided him along his path toward a musical career, and still resembles a huge inspiration for Tillery. It all changed when he heard his first rap song, which bodied an unforgettable bass and beat that Tillery clung to. And, the rest has been history ever since.
Once Tillery decided he wanted to pursue a true career in music, he began beatboxing, in which the affinity for making his own beats grew over time. “When I came upon hip-hop music, it was at an overall good time. I was very impressionable, so it worked out very well. I remember listening to Juvenile’s ‘400 Degrees’, and everything I did from then on progressed along the way,” said the artist. Through this sort of artistic evolution, Tillery’s songwriting skills began to shine through. After spending countless hours in the studio and perfecting his craft, Tillery made the bold decision to move to New York City last year. This opened up a window of opportunity, and Tillery has yet to look back.
What is most new and exciting for Tillery is the release of his mixtape, “Kiss the Rings, B*tch”. After releasing it in January, he is overwhelmed by the positive response he has received from his efforts on the project. “It’s been doing pretty well, I have to say,” said Tillery. “Some people are saying it’s my best work. All the feedback is mostly positive, especially from the people based here in New York.” Most specifically, the all-star track “Radio Killer” is performing exceptionally well, and raking in major numbers on Soundcloud. In Tillery’s own words, the mixtape is “a snapshot of my experiences over the last couple of years, that also showcases me as the greatest singer-songwriter-producer of all time”. One thing is for sure about this artist: he isn’t trying to be like anyone else. He stays true to his own lane, and focuses on being the best version of himself as an artist.
So, what’s up next in the world of Travis Tillery? A lot of performances are on the way. That is, fans will be extremely excited to be graced with his signature sound in a city near them. He’ll be heading to South by Southwest in Austin in March, which he is super thrilled about. “My sound is me. I’m not trying to sound like anyone else at the moment. This goes for my songwriting, too,” said Tillery. Though he just released his mixtape, he assures us we can expect even more music on the way.
