PHILADELPHIA, PA – While “Move On” is the name of the most recent single from Philadelphia-based rapper Fuge, it’s also so much more than a title. In fact, it’s the mission statement by which Fuge lives.
Coming from a life on the streets, the artist formerly known as Fugitive was desperate to find a way out. He tried things that got him in trouble, and was headed down a dark path until some friends started encouraging him to pursue music.
“I’ve always been a music head,” Fuge said. “I’ve always loved hip-hop and R&B and loves listening to Jay Z, Lil Wayne, Nas and DMX. It wasn’t until about eight years ago, though, that I started taking music really seriously. I wanted out of the streets and I wanted to make a better life, and everybody was telling me I was good at music. So I decided I might as well stick with it. My first project was ‘Guilty But Innocent’ and the concept is that I was guilty of things I was doing, but I was innocent because I was doing them for the right reasons.”
Since that time, Fuge has been steadily moving forward, one step at a time, trying to build a successful music career. Much like his new single suggests, he has had to move past many disappointments and setbacks in his life. But every time he has chosen to move on.
“It definitely does take a lot of hard work to be successful,” he said. “That idea finds its way into a lot of my music. I work hard. Life has had its ups and downs, but I know that if I keep working everything will work out right in the end. It’s all about the grind. It doesn’t happen overnight. It doesn’t happen in the blink of an eye. And once you get it, you appreciate it more because of all those trials and tribulations you’ve been through. It’s because of those things that you will know how to keep it and hold on to what you’ve achieved.
“’Move On’ is a street record, but it’s also for the clubs, and it basically takes that same idea and encourages people to move on from whatever they have in their lives that isn’t working. There’s no need to dwell on it. You did what you did and it’s time to move on. It’s time to get back to whatever it is you’re doing to make yourself successful. So if you were with a female and she did you wrong, put it aside and find somebody else.”
Fuge said the single is the first off an upcoming project called “Life of a Go Getter.” The project is set to be released later this year, but “Move On” is already available on his SoundCloud page, and a music video will be following shortly. He said he hopes the song will inspire others to push forward and work hard for the things that they want in life.
“My music is gonna motivate you,” he said. “It’s going to make you want to get up and want to get to it. You’re not going to be down and depressed about yourself when you listen to my music. It’s time to get up and move and grind. And I’m going to keep it 100 with my life story – telling you about things I’ve seen and been through. I want people to learn from my life experiences and be able to put it to their own lives.”
