MOBILE, AL – Anybody can stand out, as long as they be themselves.
That’s the motto that Yungg V lives his life by, and it’s the mantra that he incorporates into his music. His whole career is based around sharing stories from his life in hopes of inspiring others to chase their dreams and be confident in who they are and how they live.
“I just want to give people the real me and my story,” he said. “There are a lot of people out there who can relate to my story of growing up with nothing and coming out of poverty, coming out of the streets. I always tell people there are more people in the struggle than balling. I understand people in the struggle because I come from that. I want them to know I’m just like them and I’m trying to make it out. I want to use whatever good I can to make something positive and help people get up out of it.”
Yungg V started rapping at a young age, when he was growing up on the streets of Mobile, Alabama and people were referring to him as simply V. He never thought growing up that he’d be able to find a way out of his neighborhood. He saw a lot and put up a wall early in life, and writing poetry and rap songs was the only way he had of venting all those things that festered inside.
Then in 2008 his best friend was killed. It was a friend who always used to encourage him to take rap more seriously and use it to find a way out of the struggle and off the streets. His death hit Yungg V hard, and he decided to take his friend’s advice seriously and pursue a professional music career. He started by joining a group called Money Bag Gang, which released a mixtape called “All or Nothing.” In the years since, Yungg V has continued to make music and gain a fan following. His single “Successful,” which was released in 2016, has already seen nearly 150,000 views on YouTube and is currently available for purchase on iTunes. It also made it to the semi-finals for the International Songwriting Competition in 2016.
In June he released a new single called “Perfect Woman,” which has already seen 20,000 plays. He’s currently shooting a music video for the song, which he hopes to release before the end of the summer.
“I’m basically describing my definition of a perfect woman,” he said of the single. “That could be any shape, size or color to me – it doesn’t matter, as long as they meet the qualifications of a lot of things I’m saying in the song. I think it’s a hot track and I’m already getting some good feedback from it.”
