LOS ANGELES, CA – Louisville, Kentucky is home to two bloodline brothers who have been taking the rap and hip-hop scene by storm for the past few years. Commander & Chief is comprised of these two musically gifted siblings, Emmanuel Obamas and Dread Head Gillie, who have collectively made their mark in the industry thus far. Their fascination with music began at a young age, as Emmanuel Obamas recalls beginning his songwriting career at the ripe age of 9 years old. Growing up, Emmanuel Obamas looked to the movie Jackson 5 for inspiration, as he frequently watched the movie of their lives. Emmanuel developed a passion for entertaining at such a young age, as he would record his own songs on cassette tapes and use household pots and pans as instruments. Little did he know that this affinity for music would blossom into something much larger later in life.
Emmanuel Obamas references his teenage years as a pivotal point in his life, as he began to write songs as a form of personal expression through his experiences. Emmanuel looked up to artists such as Drake, Jay-Z and Tupac as he realized that he shared similar life experiences. Emmanuel Obamas began performing at local contests, where he would consistently find himself in first place. After working with Bad Boy Entertainment, he became even more serious about his musical career, which led him to create his own label, “Commander & Chief Entertainment LLC”.
The artist remained dedicated and diligent in his studio sessions, and recorded his first demo at the age of 18. Dread Head Gillie grew increasingly inspired by older brother Emmanuel Obamas’ hustle that he began songwriting and taught himself how to record his own music. Dread Head Gillie was constantly inspired by Cash Money, Lil Wayne and Future as he began building his own reputation as an artist. Dread Head Gillie consistently collaborated with Emmanuel Obamas and became the first artist to sign to Commander & Chief Entertainment thereafter. Since joining forces, the duo has focused on making the best music and delivering hyped-up performances for the consumers and fans.
In 2015, Emmanuel Obamas and Dread Head Gillie released their first mixtape song together titled “I Got a Plug”, which was very well-received in the hip-hop community. The musical success didn’t stop, as they released their major hit single “Going Crazy”, which has been downloaded by over 300 worldwide DJ’s. Additionally, the record has been frequenting the radio charts in several major cities across the U.S. as well as streaming services like Pandora on Emmanuel Obamas and Dread Head Gillie Radio.
This week, the pair will be releasing the “Going Crazy” mixtape, which will be sure to have the streets hot. Following the release will be their performance at the HOT 107.9 Birthday Bash Block Party in Atlanta,GA at Centennial Olympic Park, where they will be debuting their new tracks from the mixtape “Going Crazy”.
