Give us some background info as to who you are.
Montblanc – Depending on what time of day you catch me my answer could vary lol. But on a serious note, as an individual I carry the name Montblanc a 23-year-old creative maestro. From Bed-Stuy 2 ATL is where I’m from. Not either or but both of them. Brinks Life is what you get when you mix the personalities of Montblanc and Naj Mullah. The first focus of why we are even here
Naj Mullah – Naj Mullah one half of Brinks Life born in Brooklyn New York 1992 shout out to all my 90s kids. Moved to Atlanta about 10yrs ago so it’s home now no doubt.
What is the significance of your name?
Montblanc – Montblanc is the highest peak in Europe, also Montblanc is a luxury watch, writing instrument, jewelry, and leather designer which I happen to really be into as far as my own personal lifestyle. So I put the two together and it’s signifies that my pen game as in writing skills, fashion, and style is on the highest.
Naj Mullah – My real name is Najee, Naj is just you know for that. My closest fam and friends been calling me that for as long as I remember. And the mullah use to be money I changed it to mullah a couple years back, just has a better ring to it. You know add some flavor in there.
Who is your target market?
Montblanc – Of course we would love any type of person to be a fan of Brinks Life, but I wouldn’t even call it a target market I would just say we are more in touch with the college crowd from a teenager to a young adult. But I will say as we grow our fans will grow with us and also diverting more attention to more mature audiences will also follow.
Naj Mullah – It’s hard to just say really a single target market. But of course my generation you know like college students, young ambitious entrepreneurs, just positive people who love positive fun music period though.
What is your USP? (Unique Selling Proposition) and what sets you apart from other artists?
Montblanc – Brinks Life as a whole doesn’t really have a typical selling proposition besides the caliber of music we put together and display. We don’t have a set slogan for us to sell ourselves. Setting us apart from other artists has never been hard for us. We are one of the few groups that consists of a blood relationship. Me and Naj Mullah are brothers with the same mother and father.
Naj Mullah – Honestly I’m just different, I don’t just cater to one sound. I enjoy all types of hip hop. Whether it be turn up music, dance, gangsta, or an educating knowledge gain factor. So I incorporate all those sounds into our Brinks Life music. And give a new polished sound.
What single or project are you currently pushing?
Montblanc – Right now we have a current mixtape out titled On Camera Off Camera go grab that from the livemixtapes independent section. We will continue to push that until our next project we are working on titled “ I N IKon” comes to fruition.
Naj Mullah – Yes, right now that “On Camera, Off Camera” is out on Live Mixtapes. Go check that out and become a fan a Brinks Life. But we working on the new project “I Am N Ikon” dropping end of December early January. Got some guest features on there about to turn it up a notch this go round.
What is the philosophy by which you live by?
Montblanc – Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value. That quote by Albert Einstein will never leave my brain.
Naj Mullah – Don’t stress, it finesse it. But in more political terms don’t stress, work hard, and stay humble. Things will work out in your favor just pray and do what you have to do on your end. It’s all there for you.
Which artists have inspired you?
Montblanc – This is funny because I know you are expecting me to say Jay-Z, Biggie, Kanye so on and so forth. Those have definitely been huge inspiration. But when we are talking about my appreciation for music I have had to back track and really soak in where not just hip-hop, but music came from. I would definitely have to say artists like Bo Diddley, Sam Cooke, and Etta James.
Naj Mullah – I was born in 92 so late 90s early 2000s was the shit for me. I mean Hov, Dip Set, Ludacris, Fabolous, Jeezy, Outkast, Yezzy, Clipse this list could go on but these are just a few of my favorites.
Who does your production?
Montblanc – Our current production is situation is where ever and who ever is willing to work with us. I really have a niche for a guy out in Cali named Chemist. His productions are dope and I would like to work with him personally and craft our own Brinks Life sound.
Naj Mullah – Production comes collectively. But Brinks Life is def down to work with anyone who got some heat.
What is your opinion of the current state of the music industry?
Montblanc – I thirst for interviewers to ask me this question ,because I can say I love it. Everything that is going on with hip-hop from coast to coast just feels right. It feels like the artist such as ourselves are free to do and make whatever moves we feel to make.
Naj Mullah – I think da music scene is cool. Anything you want they have it out there. And You literally have unlimited opportunity to also be heard. Just wish radio wasn’t so focused on the usual. But shit I can’t complain it’s come along way.
Are there any singers that you would like to collaborate with in the future?
Montblanc – Yeah man, there are plenty of singers I would love to collaborate in the future like Jhene Aiko, Janelle Monae, Lauryn Hill, Eryka Badu just to name a few.
Naj Mullah – Yea, no doubt growing up I was a fan of the whole Hiphop/R&b collab thing. It goes hand and hand it seem like. But, I would love to work with lauryn hill. Man, she was the shit. Still is, I listen to her almost daily.
What is your favorite part of your live show? How has it evolved?
Montblanc – Hmm? I would definitely say our ability to move around on stage with little confusion. You know while we are out here on the come up pretty much any venue we have the opportunity to perform at, the stage is never roomy. So we have worked on how to still provide interaction and energy without looking like two molly zombies crashing each other lol.
Naj Mullah – Energy energy energy oh and stage presence. We interact with our fans , viewers, supporters, even haters. We enjoy doing what we do. Brinks Life
