Lil Wayne returned to his native New Orleans this weekend to shoot the video for “God Bless Amerika” in his old Hollygrove neighborhood. All good, but trampling on an American flag like the behind the scenes footage shows probably won’t go over too well with patriots. The song is the next single from Weezy’s I Am Not A Human Being II album, which is out now. The video is directed by Eif Rivera.
TMZ has already noted Tunechi’s suspect treatment of the stars and stripes. Lil Wayne trampled the American flag over the weekend … and there’s footage. Weezy performed the stunt while shooting his new music video for “God Bless Amerika” in New Orleans. During the shoot, Wayne begins rapping in front of a giant American flag … which is released to the ground. After it’s on the floor, Wayne continues to rap … while stepping all over the stars and stripes. The lyrics to Wayne’s song are just as controversial …
“My country ’tis of thee / Sweet land of kill ’em all and let ’em die / God bless Amerika / This ole’ godless Amerika.” If you watch the video (see below), it seems like the “How To Love” rapper isn’t mindful that he’s stepping on the flag and not doing it as a form or protest. Nevertheless, do you think Lil Wayne was out of pocket for this one or are people being too sensitive? Let us know your stance in the comments.
